Road Trip and Friends – Part 2

Posted on May 15, 2026

We continued our journey to Monterey but took Highway 1 along a beautiful and fully blooming coastline. Enjoyed the day, the smells and, of course, a stop to play with Tarynn. Our destination for stay would be at Casa Munras, which is pet friendly, with great staff, and excellent food. Sunday was OUR day and we spent it out in the sun at various stunning locations.

The most important days were engaged with people I have known for years but have not seen since pre-COVID, or in the case of a mentee, Kate Vylet, never.  Meeting someone that was only via ZOOM, phone or email was incredibly special.

Monday was for “Passing the Baton” and seeing a new location for Bradley Gallery.

Backscatter Underwater Video and Photography is well known for their commitment to the specialty, but most importantly, their encouragement and support for non-profits. My desire has been to turn over my housed camera systems, strobes, and the plethora of accessories to the next generation, especially young women, who just cannot afford the price tag. It did not matter if it was not the most up-to-date equipment, it is there to give an opportunity. Becca made the arrangements to unload all the items. I have hung up my fins but have to say what an incredible 40 years of experiencing marine life around the world. THANK YOU!!!

It has been a long time since I have seen Jason Bradley. His new location and gallery in Pacific Grove are spectacular!  Bradley Gallery and Print Services A joyful time to see Jason and his print specialist, Joe Platko. They have done some special large canvas prints for exhibition and sales for some of my images and are now adding team members to the staff.

The last day in Monterey was additionally special. The subject of my documentary film, artist, and resident of Monterey for the last forty years of her life. Caroline Mytinger passed in 1980 leaving her charming home to the Monterey Museum of Art and subsequently purchased by two kind gentlemen. The current owner, Rosemary Kennett, holds Caroline’s memory in her heart.

Rosemary prepared a lovely lunch, and we spent valuable time sharing those memories, walking around the home, and making family updates.

A gift from Rosemary may not be important to others, but for me. Absolutely!!!  A hand-woven rug discovered in the home and obviously collected by Caroline. The origin is unknown and it shows the years of repair and maintenance.

As I recover from my hip repair and maintenance, I will try to find out more about the origin, weaving, and material or I should just enjoy my very own art collection.
