As I included “wealth” in the title of this newsletter, it certainly means more than dollar signs. Of course, there are many foundations in need of support. The theme and day needs to run EVERYDAY and not once a year for “Financing Wildlife Conservation for People and Planet”
Anyone reading this newsletter and familiar with the IUCN Red List? That is strong information about the 9 categories in the list: Extinct, critically endangered, endangered, threatened, vulnerable, near threatened, least concerned and data deficient. As you know, one of my favorite and focused organizations is iLCP/International League of Conservation Photographers. More on some updates further in this newsletter. In December, I shared plenty of celebratory news. It was a time to spend with my friends at Hohimer Wealth Management. Of course, I have a financial advisor and thank goodness David Hohimer and his talented team have kept my assets in good shape for both George and my retirement time. For 25+ years, David has kept it stable as he moved through his career and now has the best employees and office in Seattle. Then there is Robbie Ott, who produces visual content. Hmmm, you think it was easy to connect on several levels? |
The selection of images by “your’s truly” is a subjective moment. I have to say, the images chosen for “The Michele Room” made me smile. Are these animals on the IUCN Red List? You bet they are.
“The Catch”: A young male lion of Botswana (Panthera leo) with a warthog for dinner. Lions are Vulnerable and recently moved to THREATENED in 2023.
“The Gaze”: Beautiful leopard on the hunt. VULNERABLE and on the decline.
“The Tall Man”: Just how I describe David Hohimer! This stunning giraffe was not so easy to find in the desert regions of Namibia. They are VULNERABLE and populations are decreasing.
“Shark Time”: Caribbean Reef Sharks may be somewhat easy to see at cleaning stations but are ENDANGERED. We hear more about shark attacks but it’s we humans that put these incredible sea creatures at risk.
“The Giant”: is an ENDANGERED species of manta ray and declining in numbers.
The iLCP Fellowship is made up of top-tier photographers and filmmakers using solution-based media as a catalyst for conservation efforts. They shine a light on issues ranging from endangered flora and fauna to climate change to ocean health.
The organization introduced new Associate and Emerging League talent. As I watched both presentations/introductions, it was apparent that the amount of work, passion and talent is extraordinary. No words to express how proud and in awe of these young people from around the world. To see this presentations, highly recommended, just click on the photos to see the interviews. |
Stay tuned for my next newsletter that will directly share some of my favorite art pieces and their stories. Till then —
